I'm going to live in Japan for awhile. I'm worried about my size. I'm 5'5" and 145 lbs. I wear usually a size 5-9. I'm worried about looking obese in Japan. How much weight would I need to lose to not be obese looking?

Hehehe, dont worry about your weight, ive seen a fair amount of fat people in Japan, its rare but they are there, dont worry about it too much. Plus if your gonna live there for a while, you will lose a few pounds, trust me, i did. hahaha.

Ignoring all the "Just be yourself" and "Everyone is beautiful" junk.. yes.. that is equivalent to 165cm at 66kg. My girlfriend is 164cm and 48kg for comparison. If I imagine her at +18kg, damn.. I would say yeah.. that is big and Japanese will consider that big. Younger girls are getting pretty chubbed out these days so it's not like anyone is gonna care or point and laugh but certainly, they will be thinking "**** look at that huge foreign girl!"



Whether they are right or wrong is not the issue people. She is asking how she will be perceived in Japan and I'm giving her the truth.

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be

i know someone who just went to Japan. He said that most of the "harajuku" girls there looks good with their clothes (fashion thing there) BUT they're WACK! it's either they wear tons of makeup or they have busted teeth.



stop obsessing about your weight. just let your natural beauty shine through. it may be hard for awhile coz our society considers only skinny beautiful but try not to let it bother you.

my sister was the same, lived in korea, and was classed as big but she didnt really mind as she was australian and they are just naturally smaller than us, my mother went over to visit and was looking at t shirts for my daughter (which was in their adult section) anyway she picked up a shirt and the lady came over to her and said . no you xxx large, lol, needless to say mum didnt buy from there, anyway your weight is fine dont stress about it
