It's NORMAL that you can 'smell' that your period is coming, and you are correct, it's a 'hormonal odor' that YOU can smell but others can't smell nearly as much as you do. As long as you are healthy, and you use good hygiene every day, you should feel 'fine' about being around other people. Usually, people smell bad to others before they smell bad to themselves, but for some reason when women reach their thirties, they can 'smell' the beginning of their periods coming when others can't 'smell' a thing ... it's a psychological odor, not a 'real odor' AS LONG as you use good hygiene regularly.

I agree that people who has not experienced this should rather steer clear from the negative comments. The hormones are so powerful that it can increase any of the senses, biologically a mother for instance can smell her baby without seeing it, like in the dark, you are also more protective than usual, even when you are still pregnant. So yes, it is possible to have the perception of smelling either Iron, blood or different smells, just before your period. It is the hormones connected to the brain that enhances the sensor activity & all our wires are intertwined. Even when your menstruation has not started yet, you get the iron-like smell & this is because the cells have a memory.

So please don't leave comments if you don't know what you are talking about, especially guys that don't get a period !!!

This is mostly due to diet and metabolic changes.

Increase your fiber, don't eat red meat and chicken. Eat more fish and nuts and only use olive oil and foods that are cooked in it. Using a sauna a few times during the weak before you start will diffuse that peculiar odor in the skin that some women have prior.

That's weird, but I have a suggestion. You can use feminine odor spray called FDS. It's used for underwear areas and the vagina. It helps daily to use when you get out of the shower or after intercourse, even before.

Hope this helps

your smelling your blood. But you could have bacterial vaginitus all it is is the bad bacteria is stronger and there are more then the good bacteria in your vagina. You can have it and not know or think your having a bladder infection. Alot of women have it and never know till it gets to sever. Talk to your doctor.

I think what you are experiencing is perfectly normal.Having your period is your bodies way of cleaning itself out.If you are worried about the odor i would just try to stay fresh with powder, extra showering, or even douch.
