The reassuring thing is that you have had scans and blood tests and they have all been normal. I know it sounds odd but there may be nothing wrong with you.....sometimes this can happen for no obvious reason. If you did have something such as polycystic ovaries the tests you have had would have shown this.

My own daughter was regular to start with but now only has 2-3 periods a year. She, like you, has had all kinds of tests and nothing has been found to be wrong. The only time it is a problem is if and when you want to get pregnant. At that stage, if things have not settled down, you may need fertility drugs to stimulate your ovaries.

I know it is easy for me to say, but try not to worry too much and hopefully things will soon return to normal. Take care.

Hmmm that's kind of strange that you had all those tests and they aren't telling you why this has happened or giving you any idea of why.

As I read your question I was wondering if you had PCOS

(Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome).

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disturbance among premenopausal women

PCOS Symptoms can include:irregular periods or lack of periods, unwanted facial and or body hair (hirsutism), oily skin, acne, being overweight, rapid weight gain; difficulty in losing weight ...

But I am pretty sure they would have been able to detect this via a scan and a blood test.

The other things that cause periods to stop are ovarian cysts...but again, I would have thought they would find this. Stress, shock, or rapid weight loss, can also affect your periods. Again I believe the hospital would have picked up on these things if they were the case....so the mind boggles.

Since the hospital is unconcerned, I don't think you should be too worried. Maybe its just a 'blip' in your cycle and things will return to normal soon.

Take care

You are fine and often sometimes there may be many reasons for your missed cycles.

If all the tests are OK then one probability is that some anxiety or work load or tense relations at home may lead to this. In addition rapid weight loss or certain drug abuse may cause this. Also rarely climatic changes have been seen to lead to such episodes. There is one condition called pseudocysis where in with being pregnant the lady has no periods and may even have abdominal swelling and even labor pains.

Also lactating mothers do not have cycles till they breat feed the baby. If your second medical is OK then ....

Go and relax..

The same thing has happened to my sister, only she hasn't had hers for over a year. You can lose your period from 1, diet change, 2, excessive exercising, 3, stress. My sister took some blood chi and this helped her have her period. This can take an emotional tole on you, from experienced by my sister, I think you should get a second opinion from another doctor.

Maybe you are fine. I know a few people who have not had a period for few months but then they just started again like normal. If your coping with a lot stress at the moment, then that could be the reason. But I wouldn't worry about it if the doctors say that you're okay. x

If your are athletic or do lots of stuff like exercise or run, then that might be it. Some people skip a few months, its okay. If your doctors say your fine then you should listen to them. Every girl that has a period atleast skips a month in their lifetime. Just dont worry about it your fine. :D

please don't worry too much about my answer, i'll just share my personal experience. I was 16 when my period stopped, and my parents wouldn't take me to the doc. at 19, i took myself after not having it for over 2 years. they checked everything and i was fine in the "gyno" area. then they asked me some strange questions...did i lactate? the answer was yes...i was def not prego, cuz i was a virgin, and as a very naive teen, i was extrememly embarrassed to even be at the gyno and to admit that i was lactating (just a very little, but it was there) anyway, they checked my hormone levels...specifically my prolactin levels and they were way too high. turns out i had a pituitary adenoma...which is a brain tumor. (it's not NEARLY as bad as it sounds...2 days in the hospital for a quick surgery and i was back to business in 2 weeks.) questions to ask yourself...

1. are you lactating

2. have you gained weight or gotten taller recently....sounds strange i know, but it's a relevant question. (since it has only been 3 months, i wouldn't have expected much change in these areas)

3. is your face really round all of a sudden, do you have a "hump" on your neck....not like hunchback of notredame...just like you have really bad posture.

4. are you extra flushed? red faced a lot?

basically, just have your doc check your hormone levels. if you do have this condition, you would be catching it very early, and can be given a pill to resolve it. i do not want to scare you, but speaking from experience whatever you have, you need to make sure someone finds out what it is. my tumor caused me to miss my period for over 2 years, grow a few extra inches and gain about 50 lbs. it could have been much worse....i.e. one arm growing bigger than the other...i do have one foot that is a half size larger....and if you wait too long it could cause permanent infertility, blindness, severe migraines, and diabetes.

anyway, after having mine surgically removed, it has been hard to get pregnant, but i have a beautiful little boy now :)

again, don't be freaked out..that is just my one in 100,000 personal experience. it sounds bad...but it doesnt' have to be. i hope you get your issue resolved, and if you feel in your gut that something is wrong...don't stop bugging your docs until you feel certain in your heart that you are okay :) good luck!

Hey it sounds like you need to go to an endocrinologist. They specalize in hormones in your body. It could be alot of different things. It seems to me that you might have Polycystic ovarian syndrome. I have that and it isn't the end of the world. It can be controlled with borth control pills and pills that lower your insulin resistance--if in fact this is what you have. Good luck with a diagnosis

Sometimes when under extreme stress or when weight is lost/gained RAPIDLY it can effect your system. Blocked Fallopian tubes or cystic ovaries can perhaps contribute. Seek another medical opinion just to be sure.

If your doctor has said you are fit and healthy that must be a reassuring thing for you. Remember its quite normal to have times of irregularity with your periods.

Also besides exercising a lot, if you have lost a lot of weight or gained a lot, that can throw them off. Also stress can cause them to be absent. There are so many other reasons and it would be easier for you to read about it here>>> http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec22/ch244/ch244d.html

If you are an athletic person then it can have irregular patterns. I am a gymnast and people have gone 3 months without having theirs, including me. There is nothing wrong, it will come soon.
2008-07-10 11:35:25 UTC
Did you get Xrays? A woman in India carried a dead fetus for over 30 years and claimed not to know it.
2008-07-10 11:33:42 UTC
Most cases than not.. if you don't get your period, it means you are super duper stressed.

But you should ask your doctor whats going on.
2008-07-10 11:35:45 UTC
i suggest trying birth controll pills for a few months, that way you will get your periods back, then come of them and your periods should come back to normal!

Stress, Hormones...Think back to what has been going on since Marck, has anything big happened?
2008-07-10 11:37:23 UTC
stress can prevent you from getting your period, loads of things really, im sure its nothing to worry about!
2008-07-10 11:33:18 UTC
Do excessive alot or use steroids? These can stop your period too. Extreme dieting anorexia or bulimia can also stop it.
