Question:
Could I still have HPV? (Please help?)?

I went to the doctor yesterday for some small painless bumps around my vaginal opening thinking it could be HPV. I'm 16 and I noticed these 6 months ago, 2 months after I became sexually active. I let them go (like I shouldn't have) and they didn't progress. Well, the doctor preformed a pelvic exam and said they didn't appear to be HPV bumps but a bacterial infection. They gave me a shot and took a culture (I don't know if I spelled that right, forgive me) and said if I don't get a call back in 2-3 days that I am fine. I'm still nervous though! I was SO convinced it was HPV so I'm really skeptical right now. I'm sorry for being a pain, but do YOU guys think I'm alright? I just need opinions. :(

Has it been 2-3 days? You can always call your doctors office to make 100% sure that the biopsy came back negative.

Bacterial infections do happen and can look like HPV. I had a horrendous rash on my crease near my vagina for 5 months. It was bacetria and yeast. It took a lot of antibiotics to kill it and topical antibiotic cream. It even spread up near the vagina. This all was caused by a bump becoming infected and me scratching it and then having sex (the nearness of the fluids).

So, yes it is possible that it is just bacteria. It can last a long time.

Are these the same bumps you found six months ago?

Once you get the bacterial infection cleared the bumps may also clear. If not then see your doctor or see a dermatologist....sometimes this may be the best place to get a diagnosis.

You can have HPV with no visible external warts or abnormal cell changes of the cervix.

A Pap test is a screening test for abnormal cell changes. A Pap test and HPV testing is screening for the cervix only. There is no standard screening method for the outer vulva area. Most genital warts are diagnosed by visual only.

If the bumps are still there in a week...seek a second opinion.

hpv doesnt always have signs. i have hpv, and i have no symptoms other than i have abnormal cells on my cervix, so if the docs said nothing's wrong you're fine .
